My hubby (Grant) got me some gorgeous fabric for Christmas and I couldn’t wait to sew something using one of them… and he couldn’t wait to take some pictures for me using his new camera he got for Christmas.
This is the fabric my hubby got me for Christmas… you can see the rest of my current stash here
I decided to use this fabric and Vogue 1027 to make myself a dress… as soon as I saw this fabric I knew exactly what pattern I wanted to use. I had bought this pattern about a month ago and hadn’t tried it yet.
One thing I did do different with this dress is I used my new small rotary cutter to cut out the pattern. I have to say I actually found it a really easy method for cutting and I seemed to get a very accurate cut. I put in quite a few pins to ensure the fabric didn’t move especially as it was super slippery.

We thought we’d have a little fun and I’d strut my stuff like a supermodel (hahahaha) and we sure did! |

I have no idea what this pose was meant to be but I cracked up laughing when I saw it and simply had to share… I promise I don’t mind if you laugh too… I would… actually I am LOL |

I just noticed I had my rubber thongs on.. an aussie wardrobe essential for summer! Models wear them too don’t they? hahaha |
This dress is a little big on me and I definitely could have gone down a size. I’ve made a note on my Vogue 1027 pattern to remind myself next time I use this pattern to go down at least 1 size smaller than what ever my measurements are… maybe even two depending on the stretch in the fabric.
The fabric I used in this dress (I think) is a jersey knit and it seems to have a fairly similar stretch in both directions. I feels soooo soft on my skin and is so comfortable to wear. I think I’ll definitely get a lot of wear out of it (well at least while it fits) and I think I’ll definitely get some more use out of my Vogue 1027 pattern and will be keeping it in my collection.
I’ve lost 20kgs this year and my measurements keep changing… I know this is a good thing but issue I have is I have to keep buying fabric and making new clothes….it’s a terrible problem to have when you love sewing…isn’t it? LOL
So what do you think… is Vogue 1027 a keeper and should I make another dress in a smaller size using this pattern?
I think it looks fantastic! It looks so comfy. It looks like a winner to me – i always wear my first version of things a few times before making a second, to try and see if there's anything i would change after wearing it for a while.
Thanks Rachel and I love the tip too… so I'll definitely take notice. I've been wearing it today and I think if I go down a size the cross over will come up a little higher as it is a little low and shows just a tad too much of cleavage for me. I did sew in some clear elastic around the neckline which has helped prevent it from gapping. Thanks again for the tip 🙂
Love it! I've had my eye on that pattern for years, but I've never been able to find the perfect fabric.
Hi Abby and thank you! As soon as I opened up my Christmas present and saw this fabric I imagined it made up in this pattern. I too just didn't have the right fabric for it. I'm so glad Grant's (my hubby) mum chose this fabric for me… it's probably not a fabric I would have picked myself but it's really grown on me 🙂
looks gorgeous on you! great job!
The dress looks great on you and I love that fabric. I definitely like bright colors and geometrics. You did a good job and all since Christmas?? Wow!
Thank you for the compliment 🙂
Thanks Carol and I love the colors in this dress and the geometric pattern too. I've been enjoying 2 weeks off over Christmas… and I could totally get use to not working and just sewing all day long LOL
Wow, definitely a keeper! I just love the breezy lines and the feminine silhouette. Not to mention the gorgeous colours!
Thanks Carolyn and I'll will be keeping this one for sure… I wore it all day yesterday and it was sooo comfortable and I felt great in it. This pattern is definitely one I'll use again 🙂
what a lovely dress, it really looks good on you!
Thanks Regina 🙂
I'm loving this dress. I'm not a print person and I love this print. Looks great on you. Hey, I'm having fun going through your blog to find a dare for you. 🙂
I wasn't sure about this print until I made it up and now I love it too. I'm loving the sewing dare and am going for the mid weight woven pencil skirt… can't wait! I might also do the shirt for my hubby as I've been wanting to make one of these as well as I've never made him one before. Probably need to stop being a selfish seamstress LOL
The dress is gorgeous on you.
I've made this dress and found I had to go down a size too. I wore mine until it developed holes in the fabric, so am planning a second one. I would think a second one in a different fabric would prove very useful.
Thank you and I too will probably wear this til the holes develop… even then I'll probably still wear it around the house LOL. A second one in a different fabric is a great idea. Hopefully you'll get as much wear out of your second one as you did your first 🙂
