This gorgeous fabric was in my stash and I thought it was perfect for my first Tiramisu and for Jungle January so we could join in on the safari fun arranged by Pretty Grievances
There’s something about an animal print that brings out the fun wild side of us… and I couldn’t help myself and just had to have a little fun with this one after seeing some of the pics the other ladies had shared for their makes for Jungle January via Twitter and what Pretty Grievances shared here
Ok… as you can tell Jungle January has made me a little crazy so now… back to my Tiramisu
First off I read all the instructions provided in the pattern which by the way is the first pattern from StephC from Sewing Cake. There’s also a 30 minute a day Tiramisu Sew-along you can join in on where Steph is providing lots of great tips and there’s also a Flickr group which is super dooper active and everyone is sharing their projects and StephC and the rest of the members in the group are fully supportive of each other.
Next up I decided to trace out my pattern instead of cutting up the original pattern pieces like I use to do. I don’t tend to do this anymore as I’ve been losing weight and I might just need to access the other sizes in the pattern down the track a little.
I also cut out 2 of the skirt pattern pieces instead of one. This way I could pin and cut out all four pieces of the skirt at the same time and ensure I had sufficient fabric as I added 5″ to the length of the skirt… lucky I did it this way as I was a little short of fabric and had to take 1″ of the length… even then I only had 1/8″ spare…. nothing like cutting it close LOL
With the waist band which was meant to be cut on the fold… I decided to extend my pattern piece so as it was the full width of the band (as shown in the pic above where you can see the join in the pattern piece) as I wanted to be able to have a little control over where the flowers in the print landed as I didn’t want a flower in the middle of my tummy… but thought I’d place one in the centre of my back band which you can see below. (Even our grass is looking a bit like a jungle and joining in on the fun)
Here’s a pic of the back so you can see I centred one of the flowers in the waistband for as a feature.
I’m so happy with how my Tiramisu turned out and here you can see me having a bit of a belly laugh… my hubby always seems to manage to make me start laughing when it’s time for him to take some pictures for me to share on my blog.
This picture probably give you a better overview of how the dress sits and how the skirt falls when I standing still.
So there you go another dress completed and another dress I know I’ll definitely be getting a lot of wear out of it and my Tiramisu pattern will definitely be one of my go to patterns for a super quick and easy comfortable dress.
What’s your thoughts about the Tiramisu?
Your Tiramisu came out Grrrrrreat! I love all the pictures. I was also impressed with the pattern. Not having to spend a day or two on alterations is such a great thing.
Thanks… I have to admit I love it and we had fun taking the pics… even though I had no make up on I thought what the heck who cares because if I did go on a Safari I wouldn’t wear any anyway LOL. I too am soooo impressed with the pattern and loved not having to make lots of alterations to make it fit. Much rather spend my time sewing 🙂
I REALLY like your jungle Tiramisu! The fabric with the flowers is wonderful and it looks great on you. 🙂
Thanks and I’m really happy with how it turned out 🙂
Wow! It is beautiful. It's surprising that you didn't do any alterations, because it fits very nicely. Great dress.
Thanks Lisa and I thought for sure I would have to as I usually have to do quite a few to get a good fit .
Gorgeous!
Thanks 🙂
Oh yes, you look very jungley. Lovvve that print. Your dress is very lovely!
Thanks Faye and I really love this print as well. I was hoping it wasn’t going to be too much for a dress but I think it turned out great 🙂
Out of Africa and Out of Vogue!! Very beautiful Chris!!!
Hahahaha Helen you always manage to put a smile on my face… thank you xxx
You came out beautifully. Great dress.
Thanks Kathy it really is a great dress to wear 🙂
Love love love your dress! Great to see the fabric sewn up. Makes me itch to get mine out of the stash. Great job.
Thanks BeaJay and do get your fabric out of your stash and under your sewing machine. It’s a great fabric to sew with and it’s not too light and not too heavy… it’s just perfect for a skirt or a dress 🙂
yeah, knock out tiramisu.. great choice for the january jungle !!!
Thank you and I thought this fabric would be perfect for it as well. I’ve got another piece of fabric I could make something with but haven’t find the right pattern for it yet… fingers crossed I do before the end of January 🙂
This looks dang awesome! Love the Tira on you- it's a wonderful fit 😀 And the fabric is totes sassy!
Thanks Amanda and I have to say I love your Alma top too and the print
I'm so glad to find someone with a body shaped a lot like mine. I have this pattern in my queue for later this year, and it's nice to see how it fits you! Great dress!
Thanks Mary and I’m sure you will love this one and it’s a great patter for all body shapes and definitely for ones with a few curves like us
This is beautiful! Love the print and love the dress!
Thanks Tia Dia and as soon as I saw this fabric I loved it, bought and had no idea what I was going to make with it until I got the Tiramisu pattern and then I just knew they were made for each other… and for me LOL
This is such a great style to wear isn't it? I'm a big fan of easy to wear. Love this fabric too, the flowers give a nice pop. Always good to find another Aussie sewer.
It sure is great and I’m a huge fan of super easy as well. The flowers definitely add a nice pop. Sure is good meeting another Aussie and I check out your blog and you’re actually from my home state of Qld. My home is on the Gold Coast and we’re over here in Port Hedland for work. Looking forward to the day we go back home again
My sister and her family were over there for a few years for work at one stage, I think she was glad to get back to QLD in the end.
I can totally relate with being glad to get back… especially if they were in a remote town like Port Hedland… it’s such a dramatic change and so remote. We don’t even have a fabric or craft store… and the only place you buy any kind of sewing notion is Coles or Woolworth and you know how limited that is LOL
I came across from the Tiramisu sew along to check out your blog, and it's lovely! I've bookmarked you so that I can come back and see what else you're making.
(Many, many moons ago, I lived in Townsville – for about 3 years, and in September '12 I visited Oz for a 5 week holiday, but the nearest I came to you was Geraldton!)
Hi Fiona and great to see you here as well. I hope you enjoyed your stay here in Oz and Geraldton is quite a nice place but I’ve only even driven through there and had an overnight stay on one of our trips down to Perth. Hope you’ve enjoyed the Tiramisu sewalong and have met some great fellow sewers as well
Chris, This is a great dress. The changes you’ve made are fab and the style really flatters you.
Jungle safaris can be addictive.
They sure can be and I’m loving this style as well 🙂
This dress looks awesome! Great sewing, and I just love the fabric. You are looking perfect in it … J
Thanks Judith and thankfully I had enough of the fabric for the length I wanted… only just scraped it in LOL.
This is a test comment to see if my comments section is working properly as I’ve just set up this site and I want to see what happens and visitors visit my site and try to leave a comment.
Lovely Tira! I gave this sew a long a missbut I am getting seriously envious of all the lovely dresses resulting from it now!
Thanks and the good thing about this sewalong is if you missed out on sewalong with everyone the links to all the posts and Flickr etc are all still on the SewingCake website so you can still take advantage of the tips Steph and everyone else has shared 🙂
Lovely dress, off to explore more of your website! I am a plus size gal who has given up sewing for myself, nothing ever seems to fit me after I go to all that work! Quilting is more forgiving 🙂
Great work!
JoAnn
Hi JoAnn and thanks for dropping by and it’s always nice to meet another plus size gal. I use to have the same issues years ago and my sewing was a bit of pot luck and hit and miss but I’ve learnt to adjust patterns to suit my shape and to get a fairly good fit… although it still doesn’t always work LOL. Quilting is so creative and I’ve had a dabble in it but still end up coming back to sewing clothes… I think sewing clothes is a little more forgiving as you don’t tend to have those little 1/4″ seams and so many joins so your sewing precision is probably far more precise 🙂
Well Don’t you look lovely!!!! That fabric is phenomenal and the dress looks so comfortable to wear!
Hi Victoria… so great to see you hear.. I love love love your blog… and am loving the idea of Fearless February… I might just have to play along with that wild little sew-along 🙂 Oh and as for the comfort of this dress… it really is and I too love this fabric. Thank you for the lovely compliment 🙂
Gorgeous dress!!! It fits you perfectly…looks so nice on you and I love the fabric.
Thanks Judi and and it feels great on too… I’m really happy with this pattern… it’s like it was made for me… on and this fabric feels great on my skin as well 🙂
El vestido te ha quedado precioso y perfecto como lo luces. Además el tejido tiene unos bonitos colores que dan una nota de color.
Estás muy pero que muy guapa con el.
Abrazos
Even though what you have written is in spanish I can still work out what you are saying and I wanted to say “Thank you”. Visited your site and it looks like you make some really gorgeous things 🙂
Love how you centered the flower at the back, dress looks fab on you.
Deby @ So-Sew-Easy.com
Thanks Deby and I thought I’d have a little fun with the flower placement 🙂
Pretty dress, it looks great on you. I like the pictures too!
Thank you and lucky I’ve got a hubby who doesn’t mind taking some pics for me 🙂
Chris, this is one of my favorite versions of the Tiramisu yet. You got such a great fit!
Thank you Susan and that’s a lovely compliment as there are so many gorgeous Tiramisu versions being shared! I will definitely be sewing another Tiramisu and it will be interesting to see if I can still get as good a fit as this one. I just loved sewing with this fabric. I actually wore it again last night out to dinner and my hubby said “You look beautiful tonight” which was nice as he doesn’t often say things like that and when he does I know he means it and last night he made my night 🙂
Awwww, that’s so sweet! He’s absolutely right!! 🙂
He still manages to make my heart flutter and my knees go weak even after being together for 25yrs lol
Love it..looks so pretty on you. I have seen this pattern made up ,all over the blogs, but this is the prettiest one, I have seen yet. Happy sewing.
Oh Judy that’s so sweet of you and thank you so much for such a lovely compliment. I’ve had so much wear out of this dress and it’s one of my favorites and so comfortable as well 🙂
Absolutely lovely! You look wonderful in this dress.
Thanks Helen and I have to admit I feel great wearing it as well. Actually I was just wearing this again yesterday. It’s become one of my favorite go to dresses in my wardrobe 🙂
