My Wardrobe

Below is just a sample of some of the clothes I’ve made for me

Any links will direct you back to where I’ve blogged about what I’m wearing and where you’ll also find more pictures of the garment and information about the project.

Please feel free to make yourself at home and check out some of the clothes I’ve made that are hanging in my wardrobe.

A Vietnamese Inspired gown I designed and made using Draping techniques

Self drafted Maxi Dress pattern based on a RTW (Ready to Wear) garment

These dresses are my favourite go to dresses!  I could live in this style 7 days a week… actually come to think of it I almost do hahaha

Ultimate T-Shirt

I needed something cool and comfortable for walking in so I made myself a pair of pants using Butterick 5655 and a top to match using Vogue 8822.

Perfect pants for walking in

My first self draft wearable pattern for my fashion design course… happy to report for the practical & written assignment I go a HD (High Distinction)

Self drafted cowl neck top

Flower Power Hippy Chick top – Katherine Tilton Vogue 8691 pattern.  I made a few changes to this pattern including adding a lace overlay to the bodice section.

Definitely feel like a bit of a hippy chick... this is Zoe my little scruffy baby girl.

Pavlova Wrap Top & Circle Skirt – I’m loving the look of this combination.  The top is made from a black jersey knit fabric and the skirt fabric was a surprise gift from my hubby’s darling Nanna Shirley.

I'm actually feeling kinda sexy in this little number...and loving the shoes too :)

Lily Skirt – I was chosen as a pattern tester for this pretty skirt and shared a review about it here.

Chris Lucas - Lilly Skirt 3

High Waisted Pencil Skirt with Boning… this one is my second Pencil Skirt and it has a high waistband with added boning and was the first time I’d sewn anything using boning and I love it.

Pencil skirt – This project was a sewing dare I was given and I’m so glad I took up the dare.  The skirt actually started it’s life as the lining for the skirt and ended up being a skirt all of it’s own which I also lined.  I’m really happy with the waistband on this skirt… for more pics click here or on the image below

Gertie's pencil skirt completed using fabric feature panel for front view

Simplicity 2058 skirt – I love the colours in this fabric and the style of this skirt… makes me feel a little classy and a little sexy all rolled into one LOL

Hollyburn Skirt – Sewaholic Pattern – This one makes me feel kind of sporty

Hollyburn Skirt - Chris Lucas

Tiramisu – the Cake Sewing Pattern – Tiramisu was like it was made for me as the fit was perfect without any pattern alterations.

New Look 6609 Skirt.  I added a lining to this skirt as the fabric was a little sheer.

Vogue 1027… this is such a comfortable dress.  I made this dress with fabric my husband got me for Christmas 2012

Vogue 1027 completed
McCalls 5974 I love this dress… I didn’t add the waistband ties as the pattern called for.

Simplicity 2634 View F from the Khaliah Ali Collection

Vogue 8815… My peplum top started life as a muslin but turned into a wearable.

So there you go now you know the sort of clothes I wear and what’s hanging in my closet 🙂

Love your wardrobe. I am a plus size and cannot find a pattern to fit. I need some nice tops for work. I am going to look at a few of those vogue patterns you used. How hard is it to enlarge a pattern one or two sizes? Thanks

Hi Debbie. Thank you for the lovely compliment. I’m actually due to add a few things to my wardrobe as I’ve worn quite a few of these outfits out LOL. Pattern fitting can be a little tricky but if you get patterns that are multi sized you can see how much difference there is between each of the sizes and then if you have to go larger in a particular area of a pattern that isn’t large enough you can work out how much to scale out to allow for the difference you need. It can be a little tricky though depending on your pattern choices. Another option is to allow wider seam allowances where you think and then do a pattern tissue fitting to see how the fit is before you make up the pattern. You might also want to look at doing a muslin (test fitting garment) before you use your expensive patterns.

I can highly recommend this pattern and the Craftsy class that shows you how to sew it and how to make pattern alterations you might need. The pattern comes free with the class.

Thanks Jessica 😀 I’m a maxi dress nut! Basically I live in them as they’re just so comfortable and I love how they flow over and curves and don’t show all my little lumps and bumps LOL
